How does the Airflow system work?
The Airflow projects a controlled stream of air, water and a very fine powder containing an antibacterial agent (chlorhexidine). This solution is directed around the teeth and gums to remove food, plaque and staining.
Implant care and maintenance
One of the major advantages of the Airflow system is the ability to effectively clean around the implant without causing damage or scratching the surfaces of the implant or abutment.
Bridge and Denture care maintenance
The stream of water, air and powder can be directed under any appliance in the mouth dislodging any debris to improve the longevity of bridges and other fixed appliances in the mouth.
Orthodontic maintenance
The Airflow aids in removing plaque and staining around braces in a pain free and simple way leaving the patient feeling clean and confident.
What else to expect while having my teeth professionally cleaned with the Airflow system.
As the Airflow system will only remove plaque and soft calculus deposits, the ultrasonic will still be required to remove mature calculus.
Your Oral Health Therapist may also decide to use a dye like solution on your teeth to highlight the areas of the mouth where plaque is most abundant. This will give you a visual guide of the areas that need improving.
