Financial Support for basic dental services for children aged between 2 and 17 years
A new federally funded dental scheme, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on the 1 January 2014. It has replaced the now defunct Medicare Teen Dental Plan.
Morrin Dental has decided to participate in the scheme to further our commitment to providing quality dental care to the younger members of our community.
Through our Hygienists and Dentists we provide a Children’s Oral Health Program, which has a preventative focus through education and regular examinations. More information on our children’s program can be found on our website in the Services and Checklist sections under Children’s Dentistry.
Although the CDBS allows individual Dentists to charge the patient a customary or private fee, Morrin Dental has made the decision to bulk bill those eligible for the scheme to ensure dental treatment is provided gap free to those children who can least access it. We are also able to claim the benefits electronically onsite for an extra level of convenience.
CDBS will provide eligible children who receive certain government benefits – such as Family Tax Benefit Part A – with access of up to $1000 in benefits, capped over a two calendar year period that can be used towards the provision of certain “basic” dental services for children aged between 2 and 17.
A child’s eligibility is determined each calendar year and is valid for that calendar year only. Eligible patients will be advised by a letter from the government.
As with all Government schemes there is a level of red tape, which must be complied to before benefits are paid. In the CDBS the dental surgery is required to:
• Check the child’s eligibility on the day of treatment.
• Check that available funds are available on the day of treatment.
• Obtain consent to provide treatment from the parent or Guardian.
• Provide only services allowed for in the schedule.
We apologise for the level of compliance, but it is a Government requirement if a child is to be treated under the scheme.
If you have a child who is eligible or know of someone who could benefit from care under the scheme feel free to pass on our contact details. We would enjoy the opportunity to look after their Dental needs.
