When you come into Morrin Dental for a regular appointment, you will meet several members of our dental team: dental assistants, dental hygienists and dentists.
We would like to explain the difference between a dental hygienist and a dentist – and why having both at your service here at Morrin Dental makes for the gold standard in dental care.
The dental hygienists on our staff are educated professionals in maintaining our patients’ good oral health. Their focus is preventing oral disease. To that end, they will review medical history, clean teeth and gums, administer fluoride treatments and other important preventive tasks.
Because all dental hygienists have a rigorous university education, you can be sure they are well qualified to care for your oral health.
How, then, is a dentist different from a dental hygienist? A dentist leads the oral health team. When there are complications with a patient’s oral health, the dentist is qualified to make things right again. A dentist is the health professional who will interpret x-rays, make diagnoses, perform restorative and/or removal treatments, administer local anaesthetics or sedation techniques, and prescribe medications.
At Morrin Dental, we know that having professionals who focus on their particular role will result in each of our patients receiving the highest standard of care. From our Front Office Coordinators to our Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists and Dentists, our entire team is committed to one common goal: your comfort and good oral health.
