How to Treat Cracked Teeth

Dental problems can be intimidating because people tend to have a lot of fears when it comes to their teeth. But at Morrin Dental, we treat each patient with the utmost care and respect. We want to help you with all of your dental needs, from preventative care, to treating complicated dental issues. One of the issues we can help with is treating cracked teeth.

Unfortunately, discovering you have a cracked tooth may not be as easy as it sounds. Cracked teeth are not always visible, so if you have unusual tooth pain, it is best to get it checked out. Symptoms of cracked teeth includes sharp pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot, cold, and sweet foods, and having a hard time figuring out if the pain is coming from the top or the bottom of the tooth.

Diagnosing a cracked tooth can be done by an x-ray, bite tests, removing old fillings, and the use of a special light to look for cracks. Fortunately, early detection allows us to treat cracked teeth with a filling, onlay or crown. For a more complex crack, we may need to do a root canal before proceeding with a crown. Complex cracks are more difficult to treat, and left untreated can turn into a more serious problem. So don’t delay in seeking treatment, especially if you have a history of teeth grinding or old fillings you are suspicious about.
